07 Apr Where is Providence?
I am honored to serve as Captain and Director of Marine Operations for Providence. I have been sailing for 15 years on every kind of boat from Sunfish to tall ships… and in waters all over the world. I have served as Bosun on Providence for two years and look forward to sharing my passion for sailing and history with you as her newly appointed Captain.

Over the winter, the crew brought Providence to Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael’s, MD for a robust rig inspection. Unfortunately, the full repair required for Providence to sail cannot be completed prior to our 2025 season opening. Working with CBMM and the Coast Guard, we will complete the work necessary for Providence to return to Alexandria, but she will be unable to operate under sail this season. We hope to return Providence home to us by July 2025, when we will continue to offer our award-winning dockside tours, student educational programs and community/social events. We are developing a clear path to get Providence sailing again as soon as possible!
I hope to see all of you out on the water soon and look forward to enjoying our beautiful ship together this season!

Dillon Coppersmith
Captain, S/V Providence
