The Field Trip Program

Help Bring History to Life
for Students in Need

With a grant from Newport News Shipbuilding, the Tall Ship Providence Foundation has created a 4th Grade Educational Curriculum. This curriculum aligns with state Standards of Learning (SOLs) and includes an animated film that combines history and STEM. It offers students a chance to experience life at sea during the American Revolution

The Field Trip Program (FTP)

Our Field Trip Program (FTP) aims to provide Title One students and those from under-resourced communities
with free visits to Providence to experience our robust 4th Grade Education Program.

Why This Matters

  • Hands-On Learning: Authentic settings enhance project-based learning.
  • History & STEM Integration: Students “sign on to the Continental Navy” and become crew members aboard the Providence.
  • Immersive Experiences: Students explore our Education Center, experience the Naval History Theater, and board the Providence.
  • Historical Insight: Learn about the Continental Navy’s role during the American Revolution, with the Tall Ship Providence as the centerpiece.
  • Character Development: The program teaches resilience, patience, persistence, and courage.

Your Donation’s Impact

Thousands of young people in the DMV area lack access to field trips and out-of-school learning experiences. Your donations make
these enriching experiences possible.

  • $49: Sponsor one student’s visit, including transportation.
  • $1,225: Fund a trip for a classroom of 25 students with transportation.
  • $2,450: Sponsor a class of 50 students, including transportation.
  • $48,730: Sponsor 1,520 students from all Title 1 schools on our waitlist, including transportation for those who need it.

Our waitlist is filled with schools eager to give their students this opportunity. Your support can turn their hopes into reality.
