Construction is underway on our Senator John Warner Maritime Heritage Center, Home Port of Tall Ship Providence.
This spring, the Center will float down the river from Baltimore, MD to Old Town Alexandria, where it will be permanently installed at Waterfront Park. We anticipate a late June opening. The Maritime Heritage Center will feature a hundred-foot-long floating Observation Deck where Providence will tie up, and two cottages housing our new Education Center, Naval History Theater, Ticket Office, and Gift Shop.
Our new interactive tours will be guided by a sailor straight out of the 18th century. Guests will make their mark in the ship’s articles, travel back in time, and join the Continental Navy. You will learn the history of Providence and her role in the American Revolution, meet Captain John Paul Jones, and explore the ship that you will come to know as your home.
Each guest will be assigned a role in the crew and called upon by the Captain to use their expertise to answer questions and assist with tasks. Once guests tour the ship, they will head into our Naval History Theater, where they will return to the present day and view Providence: Dawn of the U.S. Navy, a multi-media film.
Tours are one hour, and tickets will be available online and at our Ticket Office.
Providence will continue to sail every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening from mid-June through the beginning of November for our sunset sail. Every Friday We will feature a rotation of different breweries, wineries, and distilleries. On all sails, guests will be invited to help haul the lines to set the sails, or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the cruise. Sails are approximately two hours, and tickets will be available online and at our Ticket Office.
Providence is also available to charter for up to 40 passengers beginning early June. Great for weddings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events, and any other occasion!
