Scout Programs

Bring your Scouts to a one-of-a-kind experience aboard Tall Ship Providence. Your child will learn about Providence, the first ship authorized by the Continental Congress to serve in the Continental Navy, and the role she played in the American Revolution.  We offer two hands-on educational adventures for Scout groups:

Educational Dockside Experience

Guests will learn about:

  • Navigation – Includes triangulation, an introduction to speed/time/distance calculations, and hands on use of period navigation tools.
  • Knot Tying – Including how to tie several different knots and their practical applications.
  • Mechanical Advantage – Including an introduction to the physics of sailing, and how simple machines can be used to benefit the sailor.

Key Information:
  • Program is 60 minutes
  • Recommended for Scouts and students ages 8 – 13
  • Cost is $20 per person; includes two complimentary chaperone tickets
  • Each participant will receive a goodie bag, including a fun patch
  • Ratio of scouts to adults must be compliant with the requirements of affiliated scouting organizations
  • Younger siblings will be counted as an attendee
  • Available Wednesday-Sunday mornings

 

Educational Adventure Sail

During an Adventure Sail aboard Providence, Scouts and students will have the opportunity to help set the sails (weather dependent) in addition to the activities above.

Key Information:
  • Sails are two hours
  • Recommended for Scouts and students ages 8-13
  • Cost is $1,600 per cruise
  • Maximum of 30 passengers
  • Each participant will receive a goodie bag, including a fun patch
